1932 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
GEORGE MCGARRITY JR. George Henry McGarrity Jr., 86, of Boulder City, passed away Monday morning, October 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 28, 1932, in New Kensington, Penn., to the late George H. McGarrity Sr., and Winifred Pauline McGarrity. Graduating from Franklin Township High School, Murrysville, Penn., in 1950, he was also a graduate of Gateway Technical Institute and had studied accounting at The Pennsylvania State University New Kensington Campus. He worked for the Aluminum Company of America for 31 years and while there met his beloved late wife of 59 years, Patricia (nee Malecki), with whom he had two children. They married at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in New Kensington, April 1954. While at ALCOA, he formed lifelong friendships and was awarded Alcoa Laboratories Merit Award in 1986, for excellence. With deep commitment to beloved friends and family, he valued his Pennsylvanian roots. There he relaxed by pitching horseshoes at the 7th Street Sportsman's Club, and was a lifelong Masonic Lodge member, Kiskiminetas Lodge #617 in Vandergrift, Penn. Later, as a proud 24 year Boulder City resident, he loved participating in community activities such as planting trees down Adams Blvd., the Boulder City Citizen's Patrol, Lake Terrace Board membership, as well as his Gem Club membership. Deeply honored to be amongst Boulder City's veterans, his service record included active U.S. Army duty in Washington State and in Anchorage, Alaska (1955-57) as communications officer. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army Reserves January 15, 1962. As a 25 year prostate cancer survivor, he battled several serious health issues with heroism including melanoma in 2006, and shortly thereafter, Parkinson's disease. A lifelong benefactor, he always reached out to help others, earning the nickname 'Papa George.' In the years nearest his life's end he most enjoyed family nights watching MLB baseball. He is survived by his son, George H. McGarrity III; daughter, Kathleen L. McGarrity, both of Boulder City; sister, Maureen E. Wyndham of Jacksonville, Fla.; her children, Cynthia M. Leighty of Jacksonville, Jacqueline Lee Corace, John Schrecongost III, both of Pittsburgh, Penn. and Terri Lee Neidermyer of York, Penn.; sister-in-law, Connie Kuhns of Henderson; her sons, Aaron Kuhns of Henderson, and Arnie Kuhns of Prescott, Ariz. Mass will be at 12:30pm. Saturday, October 20, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1399 San Felipe Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
