JOHN SCHLEPPEGRELL John D. Schleppegrell, who went by "J.D.", passed away peacefully at 11 a.m. May 5, 2019. Born February 15, 1926, John was 93 years old, and lived in Boulder City. John was raised by his parents, Thorald and Harriet Schleppegrell, from Princeton, Minn. He honored us all by serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, contributing under General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. John was very proud to have started the Badger Road Grocery Store, from scratch, in Fairbanks, Alaska. His grocery business prospered, and grew into Steese Market, also in Fairbanks. He was also very proud of his active involvement in community affairs, serving on numerous boards, commissions, and committees. He was elected to the position of Borough Chairman of the North Star Borough, which included Fairbanks, serving from 1963 to 1964. Those were tumultuous times in Alaskan politics, as the State of Alaska had mandated the formation of regional government, in the form of boroughs, and the citizens of Fairbanks generally opposed the addition of any government. John's wisdom and matter-of-fact leadership helped corral the diverse opinions to comply with state law. John was also appointed as Director of Rural Development for Alaska by Governor Walter J. Hickel in 1966. John also had a rewarding career in the real estate business, eventually creating his own real estate corporation as an owner/broker. John's enduring message to all of us was to contribute to our communities and society, and go fishing every chance we get. John is survived by his five children: daughters, Tammy, Karen, and Linda; and sons, Terry and Ronald. John's family included great-granddaughter Hannah Beebe, the brightest star on earth, and grandsons Dane Beebe and Jackson Schleppegrell. John's family also included Joyce Schleppegrell, Ron's wife; and Noelle Beebe, Dane's wife. The Pellouchoud family is another branch of John's domain, including Dan and Karen; and John's granddaughters Paige, Megan, and Amy. Services will be at 10:40 a.m. Fri., Oct. 4, 2019, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005. Our deepest condolences to the family on the death of John. We first met John at the family reunion 20002 in Bremen / Germany. We remember, when he organized our next Schleppegrell family reunion 2005 in Boulder City / Las Vegas so excellent. The following week we spent together: went fishing and had a tour on the Colorado river. He showed us so much of that area. We will never forget him

Dad, you are an incredible man that I call my hero. You raised me with pure selflessness. You taught me kindness, a love for nature, to be a good citizen, to be a hard worker, and so much more. My words are inadequate, but just how much I love you and that I will strive to carry on everything amazing that you taught me to continue your legacy and to honor you.....
