MARLA DAWN (RUSSELL) MADSEN 1941 2019 Marla Madsen, loving Sister, Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt, returned to the open arms of her heavenly loved ones on her birthday, 9/29/2019. She was 78 years old. She was a long-time resident of Boulder City, and thoroughly enjoyed this closely woven community. Marla Dawn was born September 29, 1941 in Mount Pleasant, Utah to loving parents, George and Twila Russell. She was surrounded with much love from a very large extended family in neighboring Utah towns of Fountain Green and Nephi. She absolutely adored her many Aunts and Uncles and Cousins and the many family gatherings and adventures she experienced. Marla loved and revered her siblings very much - brothers Dennis (preceded her in death) and Richard Russell of Utah, and 2 wonderful sisters who always looked out for her - Callie Russell Hafen of Nevada, and Adrienne Russell Peterson of Idaho. When she was a teenager, the family moved to Henderson, Nevada for better economic opportunities. She graduated from Basic High School, and took an interest in Beauty School. As she worked at a local diner, she met her soulmate. Someone who made her feel beautiful, loved, and protected. She married William LaMar Madsen in 1963 and were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George LDS Temple. They enjoyed being together in the outdoors and spending time on Cedar Mountain every chance they got. The 2 had the privilege to bring over 20 different Foster children into their home to provide comfort, guidance, and love. In 1969, the 2 adopted Michal Nels Madsen, and a family was created. Marla thrived at running the household, serving in different callings at church, and raising a family. After the sudden death of her husband in 1981, Marla was forced to join the workforce and she bravely met many challenges to better the lives of her son and of her own. The Lord blessed Marla with many talents. Her singing voice was adored by many; frequently performing in choirs, concerts, and many funerals. She was an avid fan of different types of crafts. In her free time she enjoyed embroidery, knitting, and back in the day Tri-Chem projects. Marla absolutely had to have a book in her hand. She looked forward to reading every night, and was a fan of mystery novels and pioneer tales. She will be deeply missed by her son Michal, her Daughter-in-Law, Rocio Madsen, and her 3 prized possessions on this Earth - her Grandchildren, Corryn, Mikael, and Nathaly -all of North Las Vegas. Marla had a passion for Genealogy. She tirelessly researched and collected data for her family and assisted others so they could find the treasures on their Family Tree. Marla looked forward to celebrate the successes of her entire family - cousins, in-laws, nephews, nieces, etc. and was always the first to make that visit, send that card, or a quick phone call. We thank Heavenly Father for sending us this beautiful person who enriched our lives with her love, her loyalty, and compassion. A celebration of her life will be held at the Boulder City 5th Street Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Monday, October 7th. Viewing for family and friends at 10 am. Funeral service at 11 am. Interment at Boulder City Cemetery immediately following. Services compassionately provided by Boulder City Family Mortuary.
